How Rebecca can help

Most people get in touch because they, or someone they care for, have become less steady, less strong or less confident — after an operation, an illness, a fall or a spell in hospital, or gradually alongside a long-term condition. Almost all of it can be helped, and you do not need a GP referral to start.

Common reasons people get in touch

  • Getting strength and confidence back after a hospital stay, an illness or a period in bed
  • Recovering from surgery — a hip or knee replacement, a fracture, or shoulder, spinal or abdominal surgery
  • Feeling unsteady or worried about falling, or recovering after a fall
  • Living with a long-term condition such as arthritis, osteoporosis, Parkinson's, COPD or the after-effects of a stroke
  • Stiffness, contractures or difficulty with positioning in bed or a chair
  • Muscle tension, aches and pains — sports massage at home
  • Staying active and independent as you get older

Not sure whether it is the right fit? That is exactly what the free initial phone call is for.

What happens when you get in touch

  1. A free initial phone call. You explain what is going on, and you get an honest answer about whether physiotherapy will help — including if the answer is that you should see your GP first.
  2. A first assessment and treatment in your own home (1 hour). A thorough look at how you are moving, what is holding you back and what you want to get back to — on your own stairs, your own chair and your own bed, which tells us far more than a clinic room does.
  3. A plan you can actually follow. Exercises built around real-life activities — walking, stairs, daily tasks — progressed at your pace, with follow-up visits as often or as rarely as you need them.

About Rebecca Podmore

Rebecca is a Chartered Physiotherapist with over 22 years of experience in the NHS, and runs Rehabilit8 Physiotherapy, a mobile private practice based in Newport that provides specialist rehabilitation in the comfort and familiarity of your own home across Shropshire — Newport, Telford, Market Drayton, Wem, Shrewsbury, Bridgnorth and the towns and villages in between.

For 14 years she specialised in adult and paediatric orthopaedic trauma and elective rehabilitation in the acute hospital setting. Over the past seven years her work has focused on community services, supporting frailty and older adults rehabilitation in people's own homes and care homes across Shropshire — recovery after surgery or illness, regaining independence after a hospital stay, falls assessment and prevention, and helping people live well with long-term conditions.

She is proud of her NHS career and has seen first-hand the outstanding care it delivers — and also its limits. Accessing physiotherapy through NHS referral pathways can mean long waits, which delay people getting the therapy they need to reach their goals. Timely, responsive physiotherapy makes a real difference to recovery, and early intervention helps maintain independence and reduce the risk of decline. Rehabilit8 was created with that in mind: to bridge the gap while awaiting NHS input, complement existing rehabilitation, or provide an alternative route to personalised physiotherapy support.

Rebecca holds a First Class BSc (Hons) in Physiotherapy from Keele University, postgraduate Level 7 training in frailty and in physical assessment, and a Level 3 qualification in sports massage. She is HCPC registered, a member of the Chartered Society of Physiotherapy and of AGILE, the CSP's professional network for physiotherapists working with older people, and is DBS checked and fully insured.

Rehabilitation for older adults

As we age, staying active, steady and independent matters more than ever. Whether you are recovering from a fall, managing a long-term condition or simply want to stay strong and mobile, Rebecca builds a programme around your own ability and goals — improving balance and reducing falls risk, building strength to counter muscle loss, easing joint pain and stiffness, and supporting safe, confident walking indoors and out. Everyone ages differently, so the approach is gentle, personalised, and focused on real-life activities: walking, stairs and daily tasks, at your pace.

Before and after surgery

Surgery is only part of the journey; how you prepare and recover makes all the difference. Before an operation, Rebecca can help you go in stronger and better prepared. Afterwards, structured rehabilitation restores movement, manages pain and swelling, rebuilds strength and retrains walking safely — for hip and knee replacements, arthroscopy, shoulder and spinal surgery, fracture recovery and abdominal surgery. Recovering at home means working on the chair, stairs and bed you actually use.

After a hospital stay

Leaving hospital is a big step, but recovery does not end there. If you have been in hospital because of surgery, illness or a fall, Rebecca helps you rebuild strength, mobility and confidence, reduce the risk of falls and readmission, and get back to your daily routine — with support and reassurance for family and carers too. Intensive courses are available where a concentrated block of rehabilitation would help.

Falls assessment and prevention

Falls destroy confidence and independence, and around one in ten older people who fall become afraid to leave their homes. A home-based falls assessment looks at balance, strength, joint mobility and walking pattern, the home environment and its hazards, and the medical factors that raise risk — then acts on them, with strength and balance exercises, gait training, home safety advice, mobility aid recommendations and confidence building, following national guidance and evidence-based best practice.

Long-term conditions, contractures and positioning

Rebecca works with people living with neurological conditions such as Parkinson's, MS and stroke, musculoskeletal conditions such as osteoarthritis and back pain, respiratory illness, and conditions affecting movement in later life or palliative care. She collaborates with families, carers, wheelchair services and other professionals so that positioning programmes, stretching and range-of-movement work are practical and sustainable within daily routines — preserving comfort, movement and dignity.
