Walking Frames & Equipment Assessment & Advice
Home visits by a qualified physiotherapist

What we do
We provide expert assessment and advice on walking aids, frames, and other mobility equipment. We'll help you choose the right equipment for your needs, ensure it's set up correctly, and teach you how to use it safely.
The right equipment can make a huge difference to your safety and confidence. But it needs to be the right type, the right size, and used correctly.
Who it helps
- People who need a walking aid but aren't sure which type is best
- Those already using equipment that doesn't feel right or safe
- Anyone concerned about falls who might benefit from a walking aid
- People looking for advice on home adaptations like grab rails or raised toilet seats
What to expect
We'll assess your mobility, balance, and the layout of your home. We'll discuss your daily activities and where you struggle most. Based on this, we'll recommend appropriate equipment.
Equipment we can advise on:
- Walking sticks: Standard, quad, or adjustable
- Walking frames: Zimmer frames, wheeled walkers, rollators
- Crutches: Elbow or underarm crutches
- Grab rails: For stairs, bathrooms, hallways
- Raised toilet seats and bath aids
- Perching stools and other seating aids
Fitting and training
If you need a walking aid, we'll:
- Recommend the right type for your needs
- Advise on where to purchase it (or check if you're eligible for NHS provision)
- Ensure it's the correct height and properly adjusted
- Teach you how to use it safely indoors and outdoors
- Practice with you on different surfaces and obstacles
Home environment assessment
We'll also look at your home environment and suggest practical changes:
- Where to install grab rails for maximum benefit
- Removing trip hazards (rugs, clutter, loose cables)
- Improving lighting in key areas
- Furniture arrangement for easier movement
- Stair safety and handrail use

Frequently asked questions
Do you provide equipment?
We don't supply equipment directly, but we'll advise on where to purchase it (high street, online, or through the NHS if you're eligible). We can also check equipment you already have.
Will using a walking aid make me weaker?
No. If you need a walking aid for safety, using it allows you to stay active and mobile. We can also give you exercises to maintain your strength.
Can you assess equipment I already have?
Yes. We can check if your current equipment is the right type, properly adjusted, and being used correctly. We'll make recommendations if changes are needed.
