Mobile physiotherapy home visits across Shropshire

Falls prevention works best when it is practical. A home assessment lets your physiotherapist see the real spaces where slips, hesitations and confidence dips happen: the hallway, bathroom, stairs, garden path and the short walk to the car.

What your physiotherapist looks at during a falls assessment

Falls risk is rarely about one single problem. It can include strength, balance reactions, walking pattern, footwear, confidence, medication changes, fatigue, pain, vision, stairs, clutter, lighting and whether a walking aid is set up correctly.

Your physiotherapist can assess walking, transfers, turning, standing balance, steps and everyday movements around the home. The aim is to identify what is making movement feel unsafe, then build a plan that is realistic enough to follow between visits.

Exercise that fits the person

A falls plan may include sit-to-stand practice, calf and hip strengthening, balance holds, stepping practice, turning drills, stair practice and confidence-building walking. Exercises are progressed gradually so they stay useful without feeling overwhelming.

Practical home advice

Alongside exercise, your physiotherapist can advise on pacing, walking aids, safer routes around the home and how to rebuild confidence after a fall. For some people the first goal is simply standing up more easily. For others it may be walking outdoors again or managing steps without panic.
