About Leah Edwards

Leah comes to you. She is a physiotherapist who visits people at home across Hertfordshire, and most of what she sees is the everyday stuff that stops people doing what they want to do: a back that has gone, a knee that will not settle, a shoulder that has been sore for months, or a slow recovery after an operation. There is no clinic to get to and no waiting room.

Recovery after an operation is a regular part of her work. One day a week she works in a private hospital, looking after people who have just had a hip or knee replacement, a shoulder operation, foot or ankle surgery, or a knee ligament reconstruction. She knows what the first six weeks are really like, what the surgeon will be expecting, and how to get you there without rushing it.

The rest of her week is spent in private clinics around St Albans and Harpenden, seeing the full range of aches, strains and joint problems. She started out in the NHS, first in hospital wards and intensive care during the pandemic, then helping older patients get back on their feet after illness, and finally in musculoskeletal outpatients. A lot of the people she saw there had been in pain for years rather than weeks, which is a different problem and needs a different approach. She also ran a weekly class for people with arthritic knees.

Alongside her physiotherapy work Leah has just completed a part-time Master's in psychology and is waiting for the result. She took it for a practical reason: the hardest part of getting better is usually keeping going between appointments, and she wanted to be better at helping people do that. It is also why she will ask how you are sleeping, and how much the pain is getting to you, as well as where it hurts.

Whatever brings you to her, the first step is a free phone call to talk it through. She will tell you honestly if physiotherapy is not the right answer.
