How Naveen can help

Most people get in touch because something hurts and is not settling — a back or a knee, a shoulder that will not lift, an injury that keeps coming back, or pain that has crept up over months and started to get in the way. Almost all of it can be helped, and you do not need a GP referral to start.

Common reasons people get in touch

  • Back and neck pain, including sciatica and pain that travels down a leg or arm
  • Shoulder, hip, knee and ankle problems — sudden or long-standing
  • A sports injury — a pulled muscle, a sprain, a tendon problem, or getting safely back to running, football or the gym
  • Recovering from an operation, including hip and knee replacements and other orthopaedic surgery
  • Getting strength and confidence back after an illness, a fall or a hospital stay
  • Staying active and steady as you get older

Not sure whether it is the right fit? That is exactly what the free phone enquiry is for.

What happens when you get in touch

  1. A free phone enquiry. You explain what is going on, and you get an honest answer about whether physiotherapy will help — including if the answer is that you should see your GP first.
  2. A first assessment and treatment in your own home (up to an hour). Naveen works out what is actually causing the problem, treats it, and explains what he has found in plain terms.
  3. A plan you can actually follow. A specific, progressive exercise plan built around what you want to get back to, so you keep improving between visits rather than only during them.

About Naveen Ramakrishnan

Naveen is a chartered physiotherapist with 13 years of experience, and runs Naveen Physiotherapy, a mobile private practice based in Liverpool providing home-visit physiotherapy across Merseyside — Liverpool, Birkenhead, Wallasey, Bootle, Crosby, Southport, St Helens, Huyton and the towns and villages in between.

He works as a first-contact physiotherapist in NHS primary care in Liverpool, seeing people with musculoskeletal problems directly rather than after a GP appointment. That means assessing, diagnosing and planning treatment autonomously, screening for the things that need a doctor rather than a physiotherapist, and referring on for scans or specialist opinion when they are genuinely needed. It is a high-volume, wide-ranging caseload, and it keeps his assessment sharp.

Sports injury is his other main interest. Naveen spent two and a half years as a sports physiotherapist at a FIFA Medical Centre of Excellence and with Al Shabab Club in Dubai, treating professional footballers with sprains, ligament tears, tendon problems and shoulder injuries, and building the injury-prevention and return-to-sport programmes that got them back on the pitch safely. Before that he provided pitch-side and clinical care to professional players in Oman.

His orthopaedic and older adult experience comes from five years at Hatta Hospital under the Dubai Health Authority, delivering musculoskeletal and orthopaedic rehabilitation within a multidisciplinary team. Naveen has completed SOMM training in injection therapy and both stages of the Health Education England roadmap for first contact practitioners, and is working towards an advanced musculoskeletal practitioner role. He holds a BSc in Physiotherapy from Mahatma Gandhi University, is registered with the HCPC (PH127898) and is a member of the Chartered Society of Physiotherapy (MCSP 115383). He speaks English, Malayalam, Hindi and Arabic.

Musculoskeletal pain and injury

Back pain, neck pain, sciatica, and shoulder, hip, knee and ankle problems make up most of Naveen's caseload. The first job is working out what is actually driving the pain, which is what a proper assessment is for. Treatment then pairs hands-on work with a specific exercise plan, and you are told plainly what is going on, how long it is likely to take and what you can do about it yourself.

Sports injury and return to sport

Whether you play at a decent level or run at weekends, an injury that is rushed tends to come back. Naveen assesses the injury and the reason it happened, rebuilds strength and control in stages, and uses the return-to-sport criteria he applied with professional footballers — so the decision to go back is based on what you can actually do, not just on how long it has been.

After an operation

Recovery after surgery is where structured rehabilitation earns its keep. Naveen works with people after hip and knee replacements, arthroscopy, ligament reconstruction, shoulder surgery and fracture fixation, restoring movement, managing pain and swelling, rebuilding strength and getting walking back to normal. Doing it at home means working on the stairs, chair and bed you actually use.

Older adults and falls

Alongside the musculoskeletal and sports caseload, Naveen works with older adults who want to stay active and independent — rebuilding strength and balance after an illness, a fall or a hospital stay, easing arthritic joint pain, and making walking feel steadier indoors and out. The approach is gentle, paced and built around the everyday activities that matter to you.
