About James Fletcher

James comes to you. He is a physiotherapist who lives in Ellesmere Port and visits people at home across Cheshire West, from Chester and Neston out to Northwich and Winsford. There is no clinic to get to and no waiting room.

A lot of his work is the everyday stuff that stops people doing what they want to do: a back that has gone, a knee that will not settle, a shoulder that has been sore for months, or a slow recovery after an operation. He will look at how you are moving, explain what he thinks is going on in plain words, and give you a few things to work on that fit around your day.

A good deal of his week is spent in the community, with people who are becoming less steady on their feet and with people living with long-term conditions such as stroke, multiple sclerosis, Parkinson's and dementia. That work is about strength, balance, confidence and staying independent at home. With dementia in particular, a lot of it is keeping someone walking safely and giving the family simple things they can carry on with between visits.

Most of his training has been in community teams. He worked in the community therapy team at Congleton War Memorial Hospital, running his own caseload alongside district nurses, and before that at Oswestry, where he led sessions himself with a rehabilitation assistant. He now splits his week between a clinic and home visits, so he is used to taking whatever comes rather than one narrow type of problem.

He treats sports injuries too, from a twisted ankle to a hamstring that keeps going, and is trained in sports massage. He played at university level in the United States on an athletic scholarship, so he knows that side of things well.

James trained at Keele University, taking a first class degree in health and rehabilitation and then a Master's in physiotherapy. He runs his own private practice alongside his work here. Whatever brings you to him, the first step is a free phone call with Lizzie to talk it through.
