Physiotherapy in your own language

Describing pain, understanding a diagnosis and following an exercise plan are all easier in the language you think in. For many Arabic-speaking families in Sheffield, especially older relatives, it can be the difference between following a plan and simply nodding along.

Hamoodi speaks Arabic and English, and a session can be in either, or both, whatever suits the patient and the family. اقرأ هذه الصفحة بالعربية (read this page in Arabic).

Hamoodi's background

  • MSc Physiotherapy and BSc Sports Therapy.
  • HCPC registered (PH131379), and fully insured.
  • NHS experience at Sheffield Teaching Hospitals, Barnsley Hospital and Rotherham Doncaster & South Humber NHS.
  • Private hospital experience in Qatar, treating a wide range of orthopaedic and pain management patients: joints, muscles, tendons and nerves, in both the arms and the legs.

Having worked in the Middle East and in the UK, Hamoodi understands what Arabic-speaking patients expect from physiotherapy: a clear diagnosis, a detailed explanation, and a treatment plan with specific steps.

What Hamoodi treats

Bones and joints

Knee and hip osteoarthritis, shoulder pain and frozen shoulder, rehabilitation after a hip or knee replacement, and recovery after fractures of the hip, wrist, ankle or shoulder.

Spine

Low back pain, slipped (herniated) discs, sciatica, and neck pain and stiffness.

Nerves

Trapped nerves, pins and needles or numbness in the hands or feet, nerve pain running into the arm or leg, and carpal tunnel symptoms.

Muscles and tendons

Muscle strains and tears, tendon pain, tennis elbow, Achilles pain, and heel pain (plantar fasciitis).

Pain management

Long-standing joint and muscle pain, with a graded plan to reduce pain and get you moving and doing more.

Older adults

Falls prevention, balance and walking, and rebuilding strength after a hospital stay.

What a session involves

  • A full assessment of your condition and medical history.
  • Balance assessment and muscle testing, so the plan starts from what your body can do now.
  • A clear explanation of the injury, the diagnosis and the treatment, in Arabic or English, whichever you prefer.
  • Hands-on treatment, such as joint mobilisation and soft tissue work, where it helps.
  • Electrotherapy: TENS for pain relief, and neuromuscular stimulation to help weak muscles work again.
  • A tailored rehabilitation programme built on the assessment and adjusted as you improve.
  • Patient education: understanding the injury, what helps recovery, and how to stop it coming back.
  • A clear treatment plan with an honest idea of how long improvement should take.

A rehabilitation programme, not just exercises

A rehabilitation programme is not the same as general exercise. Plenty of people are already active and assume that is enough. A proper programme is built on the assessment, the diagnosis and the physiotherapist's experience, set out step by step for your condition, and changed as you get better.

The aim is not only to ease the pain. It is to help you recover fully, move and perform better, and lower the risk of the injury coming back or the condition getting worse.

Why at home

  • No travel and no waiting room.
  • Family are welcome to be there, and it usually helps.
  • Privacy and comfort in your own home.
  • Exercises that fit your home: your stairs, your chair and your bathroom.
