Falls Prevention at home in Leicester

From the LE1 city centre and Clarendon Park terraces to the leafier streets of Knighton and Stoneygate, Leicester is a city of contrasts. Many of Jay’s patients are recovering at home after a stay at Leicester Royal Infirmary, Leicester General or Glenfield, or are managing long-term conditions where travel to a clinic is no longer practical.

In Leicester, patients are most often discharged from Leicester Royal Infirmary (LRI), Leicester General Hospital, Glenfield Hospital. Local community services include Leicester Partnership Trust Community Stroke Team, LLR ICB Home First / Early Supported Discharge, and Jay is happy to coordinate where helpful.

About this service

One in three adults over 65 falls each year, and the consequences — fractured hips, head injuries, loss of confidence — can change everything. The good news is that falls are largely preventable, and home is the best place to do that work.

Jay carries out the same comprehensive falls assessment used in NHS community teams, including FRAT (Falls Risk Assessment Tool), Berg Balance Scale and Tinetti, then builds a tailored strength-and-balance programme around your home and your goals.

Leicester FAQs

I’ve only had one fall — is that enough to need physio?

Yes. Evidence is clear that any fall in the last year significantly increases the risk of another — and that’s the best moment to intervene.

Will you help me stop using my walking frame?

Sometimes that’s realistic, sometimes the safer goal is to use it more confidently. Jay is honest about what’s achievable and works to your priorities.

My elderly parent refuses to do exercises — can you help?

This is very common. Jay’s approach is to embed exercises into everyday tasks (kettle, kitchen, stairs) rather than ask people to do ‘sets and reps’.

Do you travel to Leicester and surrounding villages?

Yes — Jay covers all of Leicester including Knighton, Aylestone, Belgrave, and the surrounding LE1, LE2, LE3, LE4, LE5 postcodes. Travel fees only apply for the most outlying villages and are confirmed on your free phone call.

My relative has just been discharged in Leicester. Can you start straight away?

Hospital-to-home transitions are core to Jay’s NHS background. Where capacity allows, a same-week visit in Leicester is usually possible. Get in touch directly to confirm.
