Home Physiotherapy in South London

Local Physiotherapist — Rits Rana, South London
South London is big, and getting across it for an appointment can take far longer than the appointment itself. If you are unsteady, in pain or recovering from an illness, that journey may simply not be possible. Home physiotherapy means the physiotherapist comes to you.
What home physiotherapy is
It is the same physiotherapy you would get in a clinic, carried out in your own home. You are assessed, treated and given exercises in the place where you actually need to move about safely.
That means the plan can include the things a clinic cannot see: the stairs in your house, the step out to the garden, the bathroom you use every day and the chair you find hard to get out of.
Who it helps most
- People coming home from hospital, after an illness, a fall or an operation
- People recovering from a stroke or a brain injury
- People living with Parkinson's, MS or motor neurone disease
- People after a hip or knee replacement or a broken bone
- Older people who have become less steady or less confident on their feet
- People with back, neck or joint pain who find travelling painful
- Residents of care and nursing homes
Who you will see
Home visits across South London are with Rits Rana, a chartered physiotherapist who runs her own mobile practice, Mobile Rehab. Her main work is rehabilitation for people with neurological conditions, such as stroke, Parkinson's and MS, and for older people regaining strength and balance. She previously led an NHS community team doing exactly this kind of work, and she has also worked as a senior physiotherapist treating back, neck and joint problems.
What happens at the first visit
The first visit lasts up to an hour. Rits will ask what has happened, what you find difficult and what you would like to get back to. She will then look at how you move and test your strength and balance, before starting treatment on the day.
You will finish with a short, clear set of exercises and an idea of how many visits are likely to help. If physiotherapy is not the right next step, she will say so.
Working with family and carers
When a family member or carer is around, they are welcome to join in. Showing them the exercises, and how to help safely, means the work carries on between visits. For many people that is the difference between slow progress and real progress.
No GP referral needed
You can book private physiotherapy directly, with no waiting list. If you have a hospital discharge letter or a letter from your consultant, keep it to hand for the first visit, but you do not need one.
