Choosing a Physiotherapist in Surrey

Local Physiotherapist — Anas Mohamed Armouch, Surrey
Choosing a physiotherapist is easier when you know what actually matters. Registration and relevant experience are the two things worth checking first; most of the rest is preference.
Check HCPC registration
In the UK, "physiotherapist" is a protected title. Anyone using it must be registered with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC), and you can search the public register by name or registration number for free. Anas is HCPC registered under PH138031.
If a practitioner cannot give you a registration number, that is a reasonable point at which to stop.
Look for relevant experience, not just years
Physiotherapy is broad. Someone excellent at sports injuries may rarely treat stroke patients, and vice versa. What matters is whether they regularly treat your particular problem.
Anas works across two areas daily: musculoskeletal problems in private practice — back and neck pain, shoulders, hips, knees, sports and muscle injuries, and long-standing pain — and rehabilitation with older adults, covering falls prevention, balance, and stroke, Parkinson's and dementia care.
Ask what the first appointment involves
A good first visit is mostly assessment and explanation. You should come away understanding what is likely causing the problem, what can be done about it, and roughly how long it should take. Be a little cautious of anyone who promises a fixed number of sessions before assessing you.
Check pricing is clear before you book
You should know the cost of the initial assessment, the cost of follow-ups, and whether travel is charged, before anyone arrives at your door. All of that is published on Anas's prices page rather than discussed only after the first visit.
Practical questions worth asking
- Are you HCPC registered, and what is your registration number?
- How often do you treat problems like mine?
- What happens at the first appointment, and how long is it?
- What will it cost, including any travel fee for my address?
- Will I get exercises I can actually manage at home?
- How will we know whether it is working?
Do I need a GP referral?
No. You can book private physiotherapy directly. If you already have a GP referral or a consultant letter, bring it along — it is useful background, but it is not a requirement.
