About Barney Tierney
Barney is a specialist MSK and sports physiotherapist based in Lichfield, bringing a wealth of experience from elite sport, the NHS, and the Ministry of Defence. He currently works at St George's Park with P3RFORM, delivering individualised sports-specific rehabilitation programmes in one of the UK's leading performance environments — the home of England football.
Before joining St George's Park, Barney served as an Advanced Physiotherapist with the Ministry of Defence (2022–2025), providing complex triage, assessment, diagnosis, and rehabilitation for injured military personnel at HMS Nelson and RAF Cosford. His MOD work included delivering rehabilitation courses covering pain management, return to running, aqua-therapy, and individualised rehab programmes.
Barney's NHS career includes Band 6 MSK roles at Guy's and St Thomas' Hospital and Chelsea & Westminster Hospital, where he rotated through musculoskeletal, neurology, hand therapy, and respiratory physiotherapy. He has also worked as an MSK physiotherapist with Aston Villa Football Club and ran his own private MSK clinic in Teddington.
A passionate advocate for health and fitness, Barney has raised over £30,000 for mental health charities in the past five years, including completing a half Ironman in July 2025. He also delivers MSK seminar teaching at Kings College University and practical education to Staffordshire University Sport Scholar students.
